The project Pervasive Interaction is driven by emerging technologies that make it possible to augment ordinary objects with abilities to sense, act, communicate and interact with humans, with the physical environment, and with each other. Such objects are commonly referred to as smart objects. The ability to interconnect smart objects makes it possible to assemble new forms of systems and services in ordinary human environments raising problems that cannot be met with traditional approaches to distributed systems and human-computer interaction. Pervasive Interaction is addressing such problems by developing theories and models for context aware, sociable interaction with systems and services that are dynamically composed from collections of interconnected smart objects.
Pervasive Interaction is a focused 4-year (2016 - 2019) project to explore the use of situation modeling as a technological foundation for situated behavior for smart objects. Research is driven and evaluated with experiments in situated interaction with people, environments and pervasive media. The program is designed to respond to the following research questions:
